Ukraine Strikes Deep into Russia with Drones Targeting Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk

Ukrainian drones have launched unprecedented attacks on Russia's Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions, penetrating over 1,700 kilometers into Russian territory. This marks a significant expansion of the conflict's reach.

Yekaterinburg Hit by Drone Attack

The strikes began around 5:30 AM Moscow time. Residents of Yekaterinburg reported hearing a buzzing sound in the sky followed by a powerful explosion. A drone impacted an apartment building in the 'Trinity' residential complex, shattering windows on upper floors and causing smoke to billow out. Over 50 residents were evacuated from the building, with at least four apartments sustaining damage.

Preliminary reports suggest that Ukrainian 'Lyutyi' type drones were used in the attack. Debris from the aircraft, including facade fragments, was found scattered up to 200 meters from the impact site. The area has since been cordoned off by authorities.

Casualties and Damage Reported

The attack resulted in six people being affected. One individual was hospitalized with injuries, while five others were treated for smoke inhalation and declined further medical attention.

Chelyabinsk Region Also Targeted

Several explosions were also reported near Chelyabinsk. Local authorities confirmed that a drone attack on an infrastructure facility was repelled, with no casualties or destruction reported.

In response to the heightened threat, the Kurgan region reportedly implemented the 'Kovsh' plan and a drone threat regime for the first time. The local airport temporarily suspended all incoming and outgoing flights.
