Uzbek Bloggers Compare Tashkent and Almaty: Which City is More 'Stylish'?
Uzbek bloggers have sparked a lively discussion online by comparing life in Tashkent and Almaty, sharing their insights on the pros and cons of each city. The comparison, reported by Ulysmedia.kz, offers a unique perspective on the urban experiences in two major Central Asian hubs.
Fashion and Food Contrasts
Blogger Oksana Vlad from Uzbekistan noted distinct differences in style and cuisine. She observed that Almaty residents appear more "stylish" and "wealthy," with women often looking like they stepped off a magazine cover. However, Vlad found Tashkent to have an edge when it comes to food, suggesting that while Almaty's food and restaurant scene can be expensive, the taste doesn't always match the price point.
Transportation and Traffic
When it comes to transportation, Vlad found Almaty's taxi services to be more affordable, with a notable presence of luxury vehicles. She also pointed out that Almaty experiences fewer traffic jams compared to Tashkent, a persistent issue for the Uzbek capital.
Housing and Natural Beauty
Housing prices also factored into the comparison. A one-bedroom apartment in Tashkent averages around $40,000, while in Almaty, prices can reach up to $50,000. A significant draw for Almaty, according to Vlad, is its proximity to the mountains. She highlighted that a short bus ride, costing as little as 120 tenge (approximately 25,000 Uzbek som), can take residents to stunning mountainous areas, which she likened to Courchevel.
Almaty Scores a Perfect 10
Concluding her review, Vlad gave Almaty a perfect score of 10 out of 10. She expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from Kazakhstan and recommended visiting the city, emphasizing the ease of travel from Uzbekistan. She praised Kazakhstani hospitality, calling them "brothers."
Tourism Potential in Kazakhstan
While Kazakhstan possesses significant tourism potential, challenges related to transport, service, and infrastructure have been noted. However, recent years have seen improvements. Last year, over 10 million people stayed in Kazakhstani hotels, including 1.5 million international tourists, indicating a growing interest in the country as a travel destination.
