Astana Deploys New Cameras to Catch Seatbelt and Phone Violations

Astana has launched a new traffic enforcement system designed to significantly improve road safety. Advanced cameras are now operational، capable of identifying drivers who are not wearing their seatbelts or are using mobile phones while behind the wheel.

Enhancing Road Safety

This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce the number of road traffic accidents and ease congestion on the city's streets. The introduction of these cameras marks a significant step towards creating a safer driving environment for everyone in the capital.

Addressing Traffic Growth

The need for enhanced traffic management is underscored by the city's rapid growth. Astana sees its vehicle count increase by approximately 10% annually. Currently، there are over 456،000 officially registered vehicles، with an estimated 50،000 unregistered ones. Furthermore، around 100،000 vehicles enter and exit the city daily، placing considerable strain on road infrastructure.

Integrated Traffic Management System

According to Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek، a comprehensive program is underway to regulate traffic flow and boost safety. A key component of this program is the establishment of a unified operator، the Traffic Management Center. This center coordinates various aspects of traffic control، including parking، vehicle flow، traffic light synchronization، vehicle towing، and measures to decrease accident rates.

Smart Traffic Lights

As part of the modernization efforts، 582 out of 818 traffic lights in the city have been automated. These smart traffic lights can adjust their timing based on real-time road traffic conditions، optimizing flow and reducing delays.
