Since January 1، 2026، drivers in Kazakhstan have gained the ability to choose any alphanumeric combination for their vehicle license plates. This new option has sparked significant interest among car owners، with many eager to secure distinctive numbers.

High Demand for Personalized Plates

In the very first month following the introduction of these customizable license plates، the Ministry of Internal Affairs received an impressive 144،329 applications. Out of these، a substantial 137،631 state registration numbers (SRNs) were successfully issued.

Revenue Generated

While specific statistics on the most popular combinations are not yet available، the sheer volume of issued SRNs indicates a strong public appetite for this feature. Each 'vanity' plate comes with a set fee of 10 MCI (Monthly Calculation Index)، equivalent to 43،250 tenge. This allows owners to acquire combinations like 123AZA01، 321ERA02، or 069ARA03.

Based on the 137،631 SRNs issued، the process has already generated a significant revenue of 5،952،540،750 tenge for the state budget.

Rush at Service Centers

On January 5th، Kazakhstan's Public Service Centers (PSCs) experienced a notable surge in visitors due to the introduction of the free choice for vehicle numbers. The State Corporation 'Government for Citizens' reported an increase in foot traffic at PSCs across many regions shortly after the new service was announced.

To manage the demand and reduce the rush for 'vanity' plates، the State Corporation 'Government for Citizens' later integrated an order placement function for desired alphanumeric combinations into the 'TsON' mobile application. Previously، there had been suggestions to review the issuance process for these special plates to ease the frenzy.
