Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Partner for Baikonur Spaceport Tourism
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are joining forces to develop a new tourism route centered around the Baikonur Cosmodrome. This initiative aims to significantly boost both space and industrial tourism, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the world of space exploration.
Developing Baikonur as a Tourist Hub
Kazakhstan has expressed its readiness to collaborate with Uzbek entrepreneurs and tour operators to create combined tour packages. The goal is to increase tourist flow between the two nations. This endeavor is expected to unlock the tourism potential of the Kyzylorda region and elevate the cosmodrome's international profile.
Unique Tour Package Features
The planned tour program will allow tourists to witness the assembly and testing of Soyuz rockets. Visitors will also have the opportunity to observe the rocket's transportation and installation on the launch pad, explore the cosmodrome's museums, and visit historical sites. The highlight of the tour will be the chance to watch a rocket launch live. However, due to the infrequent nature of launches, which occur only a few times a year, advance registration is required.
International Interest in Baikonur
Previously, there were reports of Australian citizens expressing interest in visiting Baikonur. These visitors would have the opportunity to stay for four days. However, their itinerary would not include state commission meetings for launch preparations, astronaut briefings, or witnessing the rocket's rollout from the assembly and testing facility. They would still be permitted to visit all other facilities and viewing areas, including enjoying a close-up view of the launch.
This collaboration between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan marks a significant step in making the historic Baikonur Cosmodrome more accessible to international tourists, offering an unparalleled experience in space tourism.
