Kazakhstan Bans Autocalls for Missed Calls, SMS Notifications Only
Kazakhstan is set to eliminate the irritating practice of automatic redialing for missed calls. From now on, citizens will only receive SMS notifications about any missed calls, a move aimed at reducing unwanted interruptions.
The initiative was announced by Member of Parliament Askhat Aimagambetov, who has been a vocal critic of the persistent autocall system. He highlighted that these automated calls frequently disturb citizens, prompting legislative action.
Understanding Autocalls
Autocall technology is designed to automatically redial a number if the initial call attempt fails or if the line is busy. This can lead to repeated, often unwanted, calls to subscribers within a short period.
Previously, Aimagambetov raised this issue in a parliamentary session, stating, "You know that this frequently bothers our citizens. We want to ban autocalls. We have raised this issue. They said it would be resolved at the order level, but so far, it has not been resolved."
At the time, the Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry, Zhaslan Madiev, assured that the proposal regarding autocalls would be considered.
New Regulations for Communication Services
According to Aimagambetov, amendments are currently being introduced to the rules governing the provision of communication services. The new regulations stipulate that notifications for missed calls will be exclusively delivered to subscribers via SMS messages.
Furthermore, the legislative framework includes specific amendments to prohibit the generation of unauthorized traffic, ensuring a cleaner and more user-friendly communication environment.
