Kazakhstan Climbs 10 Spots in Global Happiness Ranking

Kazakhstan has made a notable leap in the global rankings of the happiest countries, climbing 10 spots and securing a leading position among Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) nations. This advancement is highlighted in the latest edition of the United Nations' "World Happiness Report."

Kazakhstan's Ranking Position

This year, Kazakhstan secured the 33rd position out of 147 countries surveyed. This marks a substantial improvement from the previous year when the country ranked 43rd. This achievement places Kazakhstan at the forefront among CIS countries in terms of happiness. Following Kazakhstan in the ranking are Uzbekistan (53rd), Kyrgyzstan (66th), Moldova (77th), Russia (79th), Tajikistan (88th), Armenia (89th), and Azerbaijan (102nd).

The World's Happiest Nations

For the ninth consecutive year, Finland has been recognized as the happiest country in the world. It is followed closely by Iceland, Denmark, Costa Rica, and Sweden. The top ten happiest nations also include Norway, the Netherlands, Israel, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. The United States ranked 23rd in this year's report.

At the other end of the spectrum, Afghanistan recorded the lowest happiness levels, similar to the previous year. Other countries with low rankings include Sierra Leone, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Yemen, and Lebanon.

Methodology of the Report

The "World Happiness Report" is published annually in anticipation of the International Day of Happiness, celebrated on March 20th. The report is a collaborative effort between the University of Oxford's research center, the Gallup Institute, and the United Nations. Its findings are based on extensive surveys assessing the quality of life experienced by populations.

Approximately 100,000 individuals from 140 countries participated in the research. Respondents were asked to rate their life satisfaction using the "Cantril ladder," a ten-step scale where 10 represents the best possible life and 0 represents the worst.

In addition to personal assessments, the report's creators consider various factors such as GDP per capita, levels of freedom, perceptions of corruption, and life expectancy when compiling the rankings.
