According to Musharraf Zaidi, the press secretary for Pakistan's Prime Minister on foreign media relations, border clashes with Afghan militants have resulted in 133 fatalities and over 200 injuries. The recent strikes on military objectives in Kabul, Paktia, and Kandahar provinces are believed to have caused even greater losses. Pakistan claims to have destroyed 27 Afghan Taliban posts and captured nine.

Extensive Equipment Destruction

Further details from the Pakistani Ministry of Defence indicate the destruction of over 80 pieces of military equipment. This includes two corps headquarters, three brigade headquarters, two ammunition depots, one logistics base, three battalion headquarters, two sector headquarters, and a significant number of tanks, artillery guns, and armored personnel carriers.

"Open War" Declared

Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, explicitly stated that Islamabad has declared "open war" on the Taliban administration in Afghanistan. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), "Now we will have an open war with you. This will be a bloody war. The Pakistani army did not come from the sea. We are your neighbors, we know your times."

Accusations Against the Taliban

Minister Asif accused the Taliban government of turning Afghanistan into an "Indian colony," gathering "terrorists from all over the world and starting to export terrorism," and becoming "Indian puppets." This rhetoric highlights the deep-seated animosity and strategic concerns driving Pakistan's actions.

Background to the Conflict

This escalation follows retaliatory operations initiated by Afghan forces on February 26th in response to Pakistani incursions along the Durand Line in various districts, including Khost, Paktia, and Nuristan. Both sides suffered casualties during those earlier engagements.
