Veteran Actor Overlooked for State Award Sparks Public Debate
Following the recent presentation of state awards to cultural figures in Kazakhstan, a wave of public discussion has emerged online regarding the omission of Yussup Akshora, a seasoned actor from the "Shanshar" satirical theater with half a century of dedicated service.
State Awards Presented
On May 21st, in observance of Cultural and Arts Worker's Day, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev bestowed state awards upon a group of distinguished citizens. Among those recognized for their significant contributions and achievements in the cultural sphere were prominent figures such as Makpal Zhunusova, Dastan Orazbekov, and Azat Seyitmetov.
Online Reactions and Debate
Shortly after the news of the awards broke, a post on the Threads social network highlighted that Yussup Akshora, a celebrated satirist, was a deserving candidate for such state recognition. The social media user expressed disappointment that established artists with decades of experience were seemingly overlooked, while younger talents who have recently entered the field were being honored.
"Yussup Akshora was one of the individuals truly deserving of receiving an award from the President on Cultural and Arts Worker's Day. Seeing these 'newcomers' who have only recently stepped into the arts, I can't help but wonder how elders who have captured the public's hearts for half a century have been left aside. He is a living legend within the walls of Akorda, truly worthy of an award," the author wrote.
This sentiment quickly gained significant traction, garnering numerous views and strong support from readers across the platform.
Yussup Akshora's Artistic Journey
Yussup Akshora, born in 1960 in the village of Kyzyltang, Turkestan region, is widely known as one of the founders of the "Shanshar" satirical theater. A recipient of the title "Honored Worker of Culture of Kazakhstan," he began his artistic career at the Zhetisai Kazakh Musical Drama Theater. He later held various positions at a children's and youth club in the village of Shauildyr. In 1994, he co-founded the theater with Ualibek Abdyraymov, where he continues to perform today as a lead actor, masterfully portraying a variety of satirical characters.
