Residents in six major cities across Kazakhstan are being advised to prepare for a decline in air quality. The national weather agency, Kazhydromet, has issued a forecast indicating unfavorable meteorological conditions for April 11, which could lead to increased air pollution.

The warning specifically affects the cities of Karaganda, Jezkazgan, Balkhash, Temirtau, the capital Astana, and Almaty. These conditions are characterized by a combination of weather factors that hinder the dispersion of pollutants.

Unfavorable meteorological conditions (UMC) refer to a set of weather phenomena that contribute to air pollution. These can include stagnant air, weak winds, fog, and temperature inversions. Such factors can cause harmful substances to accumulate in the lower atmosphere, impacting air quality.

Weather Forecasts for Affected Cities

In Astana, variable cloudiness is expected with no precipitation. Fog is anticipated during the night and early morning. Winds will blow from the east at 2-7 m/s at night, increasing to 7-12 m/s during the day. Temperatures will range from 0-2 degrees Celsius at night to 13-15 degrees Celsius during the day.

Almaty will experience variable cloudiness without rain. Winds from the west will blow at speeds of 3-8 m/s. The temperature is forecast to be between 7-9 degrees Celsius at night and 20-22 degrees Celsius during the day.

Karaganda will also see variable cloudiness and no precipitation, with fog expected overnight and in the morning. Winds from the northeast will shift to the northwest, with speeds of 2-7 m/s. Nighttime temperatures will be around 3-5 degrees Celsius, rising to 13-15 degrees Celsius during the day.

Jezkazgan is predicted to have variable cloudiness and no rain. Fog is expected during the night and early morning. Winds from the northeast and east will blow at 3-8 m/s. Temperatures will range from 5-7 degrees Celsius at night to 20-22 degrees Celsius during the day.
