Almaty's major supermarkets have seen notable shifts in the prices of socially significant food items. While some products have become more affordable, easing the burden on consumers' wallets, others have experienced price increases.

Groceries and Poultry

Within the grocery category, tea prices have seen a slight increase, rising from 925 tenge to 989 tenge per pack. However, a type of pasta has become cheaper, with its price dropping from 297 tenge to 265 tenge per kilogram. Prices for other staples like sugar, rice, buckwheat, flour, bread, salt, and sunflower oil have remained stable. For instance, a kilogram of rice is priced at 393 tenge, buckwheat at 285 tenge, a 2kg bag of flour at 619 tenge, and a liter of sunflower oil at 688 tenge.

Significant changes have also occurred in the prices of poultry and eggs. The cost of a kilogram of chilled chicken legs has decreased from 1735 tenge to 1495 tenge. Similarly, chicken fillet prices have dropped from 1699 tenge to 1495 tenge. Frozen chicken fillet is available for 1579 tenge, while frozen chicken legs are priced at 1940 tenge. A tray of thirty chicken eggs initially saw a price hike from 1659 tenge to 1825 tenge, before settling down to 1759 tenge. Frozen chicken hearts are priced at 1529 tenge.

Lamb, Beef, and Fish

The selection of lamb in supermarkets is currently limited, with only lamb ribs available at 5890 tenge per kilogram, a decrease from the mid-month price of 6449 tenge per kilogram. Prices for socially important cuts of beef, such as brisket and meat, remain unchanged at 3050 tenge/kg and 6790 tenge/kg, respectively. Carp fish is being sold at 2430 tenge per kilogram. Ground beef has become more affordable, with prices falling from 4290 tenge to 3990 tenge per kilogram.

Vegetables and Dairy

Prices for last year's vegetable harvest remain stable. Potatoes are priced at 248 tenge per kilogram, carrots at 191 tenge, and onions at 89 tenge. Apple prices are also consistent at 799 tenge/kg. Greenhouse vegetables are experiencing price reductions. Cucumbers have dropped from 949 tenge to 899 tenge per kilogram, and tomatoes have decreased from 1399 tenge to 1099 tenge per kilogram. Cabbage prices have also seen a slight decrease, from 191 tenge to 182 tenge per kilogram.

Among dairy products, cottage cheese and butter prices are stable, with cottage cheese at 5599 tenge per kilogram and 180 grams of butter at 665 tenge. Milk, tvorog (quark), and sour cream have seen minor price reductions. A package of milk has decreased from 435 tenge to 432 tenge. The price for 500 grams of tvorog has dropped from 2098 tenge/kg to 1758 tenge/kg. A 500-gram container of sour cream is now 735 tenge, down from 829 tenge. Only the price of ayran has increased slightly, with a 0.9-liter package costing 489 tenge, up from 479 tenge.
