Astana LRT Pillars Show Early Signs of Paint Deterioration
Astana residents have expressed concern after observing that the paint on recently decorated pillars supporting the city's Light Rail Transit (LRT) system has begun to peel and flake off.
The issue came to light less than a year after beautification efforts were completed around the LRT infrastructure. In May of last year, landscaping work commenced beneath the LRT lines, which included painting the support pillars and planting trees in the surrounding areas. However, the new structures are already showing signs of premature wear, with the paint deteriorating significantly.
City Transportation Systems Responds
City Transportation Systems (CTS), the company overseeing the project, has addressed the public's concerns. According to CTS, painting work on the pillars and elevated sections was halted during the winter months due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The company stated that the painting operations are scheduled to resume and be completed once the weather warms up. CTS also reminded the public that the total length of the LRT line is 22.4 kilometers.
The LRT line has been undergoing trial operations for approximately six months. The Astana city administration has indicated that the project is proceeding according to schedule, with passenger transportation slated to begin this spring.
This situation highlights ongoing scrutiny of the ambitious LRT project, which has been a long-awaited development for the capital city.
