A previously unknown letter penned by Aliya Moldagulova, a Hero of the Soviet Union, to her childhood friend Oleg has been discovered in the archives of the Aliya Moldagulova Memorial Museum in Aktobe. This significant artifact offers a profound look into the young heroine's inner world and her unwavering spirit as she prepared to defend her homeland.

Previously, the museum held copies of seven letters from Moldagulova to her relatives. The eighth letter, recently found in the state archives, had not been publicly known until now. It was preserved in the personal collection of Seyilhan Askarov, a renowned journalist and documentary filmmaker.

Thoughts Before the Front Lines

In the letter, Moldagulova writes about her studies at a sniper school and her imminent departure to protect the Motherland. She joyfully recounts her persistent efforts to join the army, noting that she was initially rejected by the military commissariat due to her young age. However, her determination ultimately led her to achieve her goal.

"I am studying at a sniper school. I will go to defend the Motherland next. I went to the military commissariat several times, but they sent me back because I was too young. But through my own persistence, I achieved this," the brave girl wrote.

The letter also includes a quote from the famous writer Arkady Gaidar, which deeply impacted Moldagulova, highlighting her rich inner life and appreciation for literature.

Significance of the Letter

According to museum employee Aisulu Turalieva, the letter was likely written around 1943, a period when Moldagulova had just graduated with honors from sniper school and was preparing to depart for the front. Despite its brevity, the letter conveys a deep sense of longing for her friend, warm affection for her homeland, and exceptional courage in the face of defending her country.

Moldagulova's letters are consistently characterized by a spirit of heroism, boundless love for her country, and a profound outlook on life. The inclusion of lines from Abai Kunanbayev's poetry in her writings further attests to the heroine's connection with Kazakh literature and culture.

Beyond Moldagulova's letters, the memorial museum in Aktobe houses numerous valuable documents detailing her life, her wartime exploits, and her legacy as a historical figure. This newly discovered letter serves as a crucial artifact, offering deeper insights into the young heroine's personal world.
