Kazakh Skater Chose Dimash's Song for Olympics Despite Pressure
Kazakh figure skater Mikhail Shaidorov has explained his decision to perform to the music of fellow Kazakh artist Dimash Kudaibergen at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, a performance that ultimately led to a gold medal.
Shaidorov expressed his deep gratitude to Kudaibergen for both his congratulatory message and his music, calling it a source of immense pride.
The skater confessed that he had dreamed of performing to one of Kudaibergen's songs at the Olympics for several years. "I couldn't even imagine that I would win Olympic gold to Dimash's song. But for me, choosing this song was a big goal. About 5-6 years ago, I heard his song and knew I would go to the Olympics in Milan and perform to this exact song," Shaidorov shared.
Overcoming Pressure for Artistic Choice
Shaidorov revealed that he faced significant pressure throughout the season regarding his music selection, particularly for his Olympic program. "I tried not to pay attention to it because I really wanted to perform with this music. This was the most important thing for me," the Olympic champion emphasized.
Previously, the internationally acclaimed Kazakh singer Dimash Kudaibergen had congratulated Mikhail Shaidorov on his Olympic gold medal and pledged to gift him a car.
