Kazakhstan Approves New Law Granting Ex-Presidents Lifetime Perks

Kazakhstan's Parliament has taken a significant step by approving a new draft law in its first reading that will define the status and living conditions for former presidents. This legislation introduces a comprehensive package of guarantees and support measures for individuals who have held the nation's highest office.

Lifetime Benefits and Resources for Former Leaders

Under the new law, all former presidents, upon leaving office, will be granted a special status. A key provision ensures that all their expenses will be covered by the national budget. The list of privileges is extensive, aiming to provide former heads of state with considerable support throughout their lives.

Guaranteed Security and Personal Dignity

The legislation emphasizes the unique standing of former presidents, stating that their person, honor, and dignity are inviolable. Any attempts to exert pressure on them will be prosecuted by law. Furthermore, former presidents are guaranteed state protection, ensuring their safety and security.

Continued Civic Engagement

Former presidents will retain certain rights to participate in the country's civic life. This includes the right to vote and to attend significant state events. They will be able to participate in Constituent Assembly meetings, attend the official inaugurations of new presidents, and will have the opportunity to be present at all official celebratory functions.

This move formalizes and standardizes the level of security and support for all individuals who have served as the head of state in Kazakhstan, ensuring a consistent framework for their post-presidency life.
