Margarita Simonyan Appears Publicly After Cancer Treatment, Past Statements Resurface
Russian journalist and RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan has made her first public appearance after a period of absence for medical treatment. Previously, she had openly shared her battle with breast cancer and undergone surgery.
Simonyan had stepped away from public life to undergo a course of treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation therapy, due to her weakened health. Recently, her condition improved, and she was honored with the title of "Honorary Citizen" in her hometown of Krasnodar. This marked her first official appearance post-treatment.
A New Look and a Resurfaced Controversy
Notably, Simonyan appeared without a wig for the first time, drawing attention from observers. Alongside news of her recovery, her past controversial statements regarding Kazakhstan have also resurfaced.
In a previous interview, Simonyan suggested that the Russian military should be prepared to intervene in Kazakhstan, similar to its actions in Ukraine and Syria, if necessary.
"If we had the opportunity to deal with some 'barbarians' in Kazakhstan, as we did in Ukraine and Syria, I would be very happy," she stated during an interview on the Empathy Manuchi program. Experts interpret this remark as a reference to the CSTO troops deployed to Kazakhstan during the January events and the groups then labeled as "terrorists."
