New Kendirli Airport in Kazakhstan Set for 2026 Opening, Operates Seasonally

A new airport is under construction in the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan, with plans to open its doors in 2026. However, the facility, named Kendirli Airport, will initially operate on a seasonal basis, functioning only during the summer months in its first year of service.

Kendirli Airport Project Details

The Mangystau Regional Department of Passenger Transport and Highways has unveiled the design for the future Kendirli Airport. While the target operational year is 2026, a precise opening date is yet to be confirmed. Construction is actively underway, with work including the installation of meteorological, aeronautical, and lighting equipment, as well as fencing. The procurement and setup of airport machinery are ongoing.

Infrastructure and Cost

The area surrounding the terminal will feature essential infrastructure, including a parking lot for 100 vehicles, an automated irrigation system for green spaces, lighting, and access roads. The final cost of the project will be determined after a state expert review. The airport is being financed by the Republican State Enterprise "KazAeronavigation" using its own funds.

Operational Plan and Passenger Flow

Projections from the Civil Aviation Committee suggest the airport will handle approximately 18,000 passengers annually in its first year. This anticipated lower passenger volume is the reason behind the decision to operate only during the summer season. With an expected 3-4 flights per week, the seasonal operation is deemed the most efficient approach for the initial phase.

Future Airline and Ticket Information

Details regarding which airlines will operate flights to Kendirli and the potential ticket prices for routes to Astana or Almaty remain undetermined. These aspects will be finalized once construction is complete and the airport's readiness for operation is assessed. Tariffs will be influenced by factors such as route distance, service class, and prevailing market conditions at the time of launch.

Previously, Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev mentioned that other airports in Kazakhstan are also nearing completion. He indicated that initial test flights could commence this year, with regular services planned for 2027. Ticket prices for these routes are expected to be influenced by regional authorities' efforts to attract tourists and the level of subsidies allocated to flights.
