Officer Stripped of Rank and Position for Bribery Scheme in Kazakhstan
A military officer in Pavlodar has been stripped of his military rank and position due to bribery offenses. The officer was found to have accepted money from young men attempting to evade mandatory military service.
Deception of Conscripts
According to court documents, an officer identified as N. promised to help individuals avoid military conscription. In exchange for this assistance, he solicited payments ranging from 250,000 to 1.4 million tenge. These funds were reportedly received in cash or transferred to the bank cards of his relatives.
Extensive Fraud Scheme Uncovered
The investigation uncovered four separate instances of this fraudulent activity, with the total amount defrauded reaching 3.6 million tenge. While the court documents do not explicitly state the outcome for those who paid, it is noted that these individuals were later deemed temporarily unfit for service by a military medical commission.
Judicial Verdict and Penalties
The court found N. guilty of multiple counts of fraud, specifically as an individual entrusted with public functions. He has been ordered to pay a substantial fine equivalent to eight times the defrauded amount, totaling 29.2 million tenge. Furthermore, he has been stripped of his military rank of 'lieutenant' and prohibited from holding public office positions. The fine must be settled within a six-month period.
The funds confiscated from the convicted officer will be transferred to state revenue. He is also required to pay compensation to the victims involved in the case.
