Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed a significant development in the ongoing conflict: a three-day ceasefire agreement with Russia. This truce is scheduled to be in effect from May 9th to May 11th and includes a substantial prisoner exchange.

The announcement was made by President Zelenskyy on social media platform X, where he detailed the agreement to exchange 1,000 prisoners from each side. This diplomatic breakthrough aims to de-escalate tensions during the specified period.

Key Diplomatic Efforts

President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration for their instrumental role in facilitating this agreement. Ukraine is reportedly relying on Washington's assurance that Moscow will adhere to the terms of the deal.

According to Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, Russia has agreed to support the U.S. President's initiative to extend the ceasefire until May 11th and proceed with the prisoner exchange based on a '1000 for 1000' formula.

This agreement was reached through negotiations between Russian authorities and the U.S. administration, with the White House also maintaining communication with Kyiv throughout the process.
