Almaty boy, 14, found safe after week-long search by police and 'Qogham' volunteers

A 14-year-old boy reported missing in Almaty has been found safe after nearly a week of coordinated searches, underscoring how cooperation between police, volunteers and residents can bring swift results in critical cases.

Timeline of the disappearance

Born in 2011, the teenager left his home on Yesenov Street on December 30, saying he was heading toward the Central Department Store (TsUM) to repair a phone. He did not return that day.

The Almaty Police Department opened a missing minor case on December 30 and began a citywide search.

Found after coordinated search

The boy was located on the evening of January 5. The Zhetisu District Criminal Police, officers from the Almaty Police Department, the Qogham volunteer group and the boy’s relatives all took part in the effort that led to his discovery.

Volunteers expressed gratitude for the police’s rapid, professional response and for residents who shared information and submitted tips.
