Blogger Sparks Debate on Fasting Dangers Amidst Summer Heat
Blogger Akhmetbek Nursila has ignited a heated public debate with his assertion that abstaining from water during fasting periods, particularly in the summer heat, poses significant health risks.
Nursila argues that dehydration can lead to thickened blood, increasing the likelihood of strokes and heart attacks. He vividly stated, "People will die like flies during fasting in the summer heat. They will add illness to illness. Your blood thickens, cholesterol builds up. The risk of stroke and heart attack increases 100-fold. This is because 90 percent of blood is water. When you don't drink water, it leaves with sweat, and the blood becomes even thicker."
Call for Modified Fasting Practices
In light of these concerns, Nursila proposed that religious leaders permit fasting with water consumption or allow individuals to forgo fasting altogether if it involves complete abstinence from water. "If they allow fasting with water, do so. But if they allow fasting without water, it is better to refuse. There is no life without water," he concluded.
Public Reaction and Criticism
Nursila's statements have become a major talking point on social media. Many users have disagreed with his views, criticizing him for venturing into a field outside his expertise. Online commentators shared their experiences, stating, "We fasted even in the July heat, and no one died," and "It's hot year-round in Arab countries, but no one is dying there."
