Cruelty in Abai Region: 20 Cats Abandoned in the Wilderness
A deeply disturbing incident of animal cruelty has come to light in the Abai region, where a significant number of cats and kittens were discovered abandoned in the wilderness. The discovery has prompted an investigation by local authorities.
Discovery of Abandoned Animals
The distressing scene unfolded near the Abai highway, approximately three kilometers from the airport towards the village of Karaul. Individuals stumbled upon several boxes containing the animals, left to fend for themselves in harsh conditions. Some of the animals were found in sealed boxes, while others were confined in tightly packed sacks.
Rescue Efforts and Tragic Outcome
Preliminary reports indicate that while rescuers managed to save around seven cats, tragically, approximately 12 animals succumbed to the elements and their ordeal. Those who found the boxes immediately opened them to free the surviving animals. Due to a lack of immediate communication at the remote location, the information was relayed to the public association OSA.
Investigation Underway
Adding a layer to the investigation, a schedule bearing the name of a cafe in the city of Semey was found at the scene. Following a public appeal on social media, the Abai Regional Police Department has launched an inquiry under Article 316 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which addresses cruelty to wild animals resulting in their death. Police officers have visited the site and are actively working to determine the full circumstances and identify those responsible.
Subsequently, a representative from the cafe mentioned in the discovered schedule issued a statement on social media, denying any involvement of their employees in the abandonment of the animals.
This incident highlights a serious concern for animal welfare in the region, and authorities are committed to finding those accountable.
