Kazakh Businessman Extradited from Georgia for Bribery Attempt
A Kazakh businessman, who was on the run and wanted in connection with a criminal case, has been extradited from Georgia to Kazakhstan. He is accused of attempting to bribe a police officer to facilitate the illegal operation of his massage business.
Attempted Bribery and Flight
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the individual, a private entrepreneur, sought to evade law enforcement scrutiny. He allegedly offered money to a police officer to avoid criminal liability and ensure his massage parlor could operate without interference.
Following the bribery attempt, the entrepreneur fled the country and was subsequently placed on an international wanted list via Interpol.
Apprehension and Extradition
The fugitive was located in March in the city of Rustavi, Georgia. Following an official request from Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General's Office and with the support of Kazakhstan's Embassy in Georgia, the suspect was handed over to Kazakhstani special services.
"For the crime he is accused of, he faces a penalty of up to 7 years of imprisonment, along with confiscation of property," the Prosecutor General's Office stated.
The suspect has been transported to Kazakhstan and is currently held in a pre-trial detention center.
