Kazakhstan Woman Fined for Spreading False Fire Death Toll on Instagram
A woman in Semey has been fined 86,500 tenge for spreading false information on Instagram regarding a fire incident. The penalty was issued after she posted that 18 people had died in the blaze, a claim that was later proven untrue.
The incident occurred following a fire at the 'Balapark' children's entertainment center in Semey on March 3rd. Fortunately, swift action by emergency services prevented any loss of life.
The Dangers of Misinformation
Despite the absence of casualties, the woman shared a fabricated report of 18 deaths on her social media page. Authorities emphasized that such false information can cause significant public anxiety and disrupt social order.
The individual responsible was identified, and an administrative case was initiated against her.
Court Ruling and Penalties
During the court proceedings, the woman admitted to her wrongdoing. The court ruled that she must pay a fine of 86,500 tenge for publishing and disseminating false information. This court decision has not yet entered into legal force.
Prosecutors have issued a stern reminder that spreading misinformation during emergencies carries legal accountability.
