Kazakhstan's Nauryz Holiday: 13 Days Off in March 2026

Kazakhstan residents are set for a significant break in March 2026, with a total of 13 days off combining public holidays and weekend adjustments. This extended holiday period is a result of how the Nauryz celebrations align with the calendar.

Nauryz: A National Celebration

Nauryz, a cherished national holiday in Kazakhstan, is officially recognized by law as a non-working period. According to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Holidays," days designated for national celebrations are considered public holidays and are non-working days.

Extended Nauryz Break

The Nauryz festivities traditionally span from March 21st to March 23rd. In 2026, March 21st and 22nd fall on a Saturday and Sunday, respectively. To accommodate the holiday spirit, these weekend days will be officially transferred to subsequent working days. This shift creates a consolidated, longer holiday period, extending the break from March 21st through March 25th.

Impact on Work Schedules

For those on a standard five-day work week, this means a total of 13 days off during March, interspersed with 18 working days. Individuals working a six-day week will have 9 days off and 22 working days in the month.

Other March Observances

Beyond the main Nauryz celebration, March also marks several professional and other commemorative days. While these days may involve work, they are occasions for recognizing specialists in various fields. The official list of professional holidays is determined by orders from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the latest update being order No. 480 dated November 17, 2023. Notable dates include March 1st and March 14th (the second Saturday of March), as well as days observed according to the UN calendar.
