Officer Raises $97,000 in 9 Days for Single Mother with Disabled Child
In a remarkable display of community spirit and dedication, a local police officer has helped a single mother secure a new home for herself and her disabled son. The heartwarming initiative, spearheaded by Almaty's district police inspector Kanatbek Parmanov, saw a staggering 12 million tenge (approximately $97,000 USD) raised in just nine days.
A Mother's Difficult Journey
Roza Daurenova's life has been marked by profound challenges. Originally from the Maktaaral district, she faced family hardships, including her mother's cancer and her father's vision loss. To avoid burdening her parents, Roza moved to Almaty to study nursing.
After marriage, Roza endured years of infertility, suffering three miscarriages before finally conceiving a son through IVF after two decades. Tragically, her son was born prematurely and spent 3.5 years in the hospital. Doctors' alleged errors are believed by Roza to have contributed to her son's premature birth and subsequent paralysis.
Facing Life Alone
The immense strain of her son's condition led to her husband abandoning them for another woman. Estranged from her relatives, who had urged her to place her son in a specialized institution, Roza found herself raising her son alone.
Living in a rented apartment costing 80,000 tenge per month, Roza's sole income was her son's disability benefit of 74,000 tenge, which barely covered rent. Facing mounting costs for expensive medications, Roza's desperate situation brought her into contact with district police inspector Kanatbek Parmanov during a routine patrol.
Community Rallies to Help
Moved by Roza's plight, Officer Parmanov decided to act. He recorded her story and shared it with colleagues, launching an appeal that quickly captured the public's attention. Within an astonishing nine days, donations poured in, accumulating the 12 million tenge needed.
The funds were used to purchase a one-room apartment in Shymkent, providing Roza and her son with a stable and secure home. "They say there is joy after hardship, and it's true. Thanks to the police officer Kanat Parmanov, and the people, I now have a home. My joy knows no bounds," expressed a grateful Roza Daurenova.
