His key advice is to never discard the old engine immediately, as some of its parts might prove useful later.
After the engine replacement, the vehicle's fuel consumption improved, averaging 9.5 liters per 100 kilometers. While the 2.5-liter engine offers adequate performance for city driving, it lacks the dynamic acceleration of its turbocharged counterparts.
Interior Comfort and Climate Control
The interior of the Forester SH mirrors many crossovers of its era, featuring a blend of dark plastic and semi-velour upholstery. The materials are of good quality, and the dashboard is tightly assembled, contributing to a quiet cabin. Even after 16 years of use, the interior maintains a presentable appearance.

For those considering a used Forester SH, Tahir advises against spending excessive time scrutinizing the suspension and automatic transmission, as these components are readily available and relatively inexpensive in the used parts market. The primary focus should be on the engine.
It's crucial to ascertain the engine's service history and actual mileage. With proper maintenance, the FB25 engine can reliably last over 300,000 kilometers. The most critical factor for this engine is using the correct oil viscosity – exclusively thin oils like 0W-20 or 5W-20 are recommended. Thicker oils, such as 5W-40, are entirely unsuitable. Oil changes should be performed every 5,000-7,000 kilometers. Replacing the spark plugs can also be challenging due to their location in the horizontally opposed engine's cylinder banks, requiring specialized tools for access.
The steering rack and power steering system have known weak points. The front differential may also start making noise under heavy loads. However, the Forester SH's body is remarkably resistant to corrosion. Even after 16 years, there are no signs of rust on the metal, a significant advantage over newer Subaru XV models.
Driving Experience
