Two workers at the MAEK (Mangystau Atomic Energy Complex) facility in Aktau have sustained injuries following a chemical spill. The incident occurred while the employees were engaged in cleaning operations.

Chemical Exposure Incident

The affected employees were admitted to the Mangystau Regional Multidisciplinary Hospital on April 23rd at approximately 7:48 PM. They were promptly examined by an ophthalmologist. According to the press service of the regional health department, examinations revealed chemical burns to the cornea of their eyes.

Current Condition and Treatment

Medical professionals have assessed the condition of both injured individuals as stable, with no immediate threat to their lives. Comprehensive medical assistance has been provided, and the patients have been prescribed the necessary outpatient treatment.

How the Incident Occurred

Reports indicate that the two workers were performing maintenance on a capacitor, which involved washing it with acid. Hydrochloric acid solution was being supplied through a hose using a pump. The spill happened when the hose was being removed after the work was completed and the pump was turned off. The acid solution splashed onto the workers' faces and eyes.
