Aktau's Oldest District Transforms: Modern Homes Replace Historic Barracks
The era of old barracks is drawing to a close in Aktau's 3rd microdistrict, as a significant urban renewal project breathes new life into the city's historic heart. Once providing shelter to residents, these aging structures are now making way for contemporary multi-story apartment buildings, promising a complete transformation of one of Aktau's oldest residential areas.
District Renewal Underway
Historically, a large portion of the 3rd microdistrict consisted of barracks-style housing. However, the number of these older buildings is steadily decreasing, with new, modern residential complexes rising in their place. This comprehensive redevelopment program, slated to continue until 2028, is expected to dramatically alter the district's appearance.
Construction and Relocation Efforts
The process involves constructing new residential buildings on the sites of dilapidated older structures and relocating residents into modern accommodations. This initiative, carried out under an agreement between the Aktau City Administration and 'StroyStroyServis' LLP, has already seen significant progress. In 2023, two five-story residential buildings at addresses No. 71 (30 apartments) and No. 72 (35 apartments) were commissioned in the 3rd microdistrict. Residents from the old houses numbered 34, 35, 36, 37, and 38, comprising 52 apartments and one commercial unit, were moved into these new buildings.
Further development continued with the completion of a five-story, 90-apartment building in 2025, which housed residents from 16 apartments and one commercial unit of the old house No. 33. In the same year, another five-story building with 100 apartments was finished, providing new homes for residents of 49 apartments from the old houses numbered 39, 40, 42, and 43.
Future plans include the construction of new residential complexes on the sites of the former houses No. 39, 40, 42, and 43, continuing the modernization of this key urban area.
