Fugitive Accountant Extradited from Greece to Kazakhstan After $230,000 Embezzlement

A former accountant, wanted for alleged embezzlement, has been extradited from Greece to Kazakhstan. The suspect is accused of absconding with a significant sum of money after working for a transport company in Almaty.

Allegations of Embezzlement

The woman reportedly worked as an accountant for a transport company in Almaty. In 2021, while in this role, she is alleged to have misappropriated $230,000 belonging to her employer before fleeing the country. She was subsequently placed on an international wanted list.

International Pursuit and Extradition

An international effort culminated in the suspect's apprehension within Greece in June 2024. Following a request from Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General's Office, she was extradited back to her home country. Due to the absence of direct flights between Kazakhstan and Greece, the Kazakh embassy in Serbia played a crucial role in facilitating a transit operation through that country.

Legal Proceedings

Upon arrival in Kazakhstan, the suspect was taken to a pre-trial detention center in Astana. If convicted of the charges against her, she faces a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, along with the confiscation of her assets.
