Iran Denies Missile Launch at Turkey, Blames US and Israel

Iran has strongly denied allegations that it launched a ballistic missile towards Turkish territory. Tehran has instead accused the United States and Israel of attempting to create friction between Iran and its neighbor.

Official Statement from Iran

A spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters stated that the Iranian armed forces did not fire any missiles towards Turkey, which they described as a "friendly and neighboring" country. The statement, broadcast by Iranian state television, suggested that the accusations were a calculated move by US and Israeli leadership to damage bilateral relations.

Turkey's Initial Report

The claims from Iran follow an earlier report by Turkey's Ministry of National Defense. On March 13, Turkish authorities announced they had intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Iran. The Turkish publication Savunma Sanayi indicated that the missile was potentially targeting the İncirlik Air Base, and it was reportedly neutralized by NATO forces.

Diplomatic Repercussions

In response to the incident, Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian ambassador to seek an explanation. This was not the first such report; Turkey's defense ministry had previously stated that two ballistic missiles, allegedly launched from Iran, were intercepted on March 4 and March 9.
