In a landmark decision, the United States Senate has confirmed the appointment of Asel Roberts as the new U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia. This historic confirmation, finalized on May 18th, makes Roberts the first ethnic Kazakh woman to hold such a high diplomatic position in U.S. history.

A Diplomatic Career Rooted in Service

Roberts brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously served as a senior advisor in the Office of the Chief of Protocol at the U.S. Department of State. For nearly two decades, she played a crucial role in coordinating diplomatic engagements with various U.S. missions across different continents and successfully navigated complex negotiations with representatives from numerous foreign nations.

Ascending Through Diplomatic Ranks

Throughout her tenure in the Office of the Chief of Protocol, Roberts held several key positions. Her career progression included acting as the Chief of Protocol, serving as the deputy to the principal responsible for Vice Presidential visits, and working as a protocol officer for diplomatic affairs. She also gained valuable experience within the Vice President's administration at the White House.

Extensive International Experience and Education

During her time as Acting Chief of Protocol from 2020 to 2021, Roberts collaborated with five presidential administrations, contributing to the organization of international summits and high-level meetings. She is a graduate of Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, where she earned a bachelor's degree in International Law and International Organizations. Roberts is fluent in Kazakh, English, Russian, and Japanese, further enhancing her ability to connect on a global scale.
