Kazakhstan Pension Fund Warns of New Scams Targeting Savers
The Unified Accumulative Pension Fund (UAPF) has issued a warning to its contributors regarding a sophisticated new scam targeting their savings. Recent reports indicate an increase in individuals contacting the fund with concerns about unpaid pension contributions, often after interacting with these fraudsters.
How the Scammers Operate
These fraudsters impersonate UAPF employees, contacting citizens with claims that previously uncounted work years have been identified, which could potentially increase their pension payouts. They then offer to facilitate this increase, preying on individuals' desire for a larger retirement fund.
In some instances, the scammers go as far as inviting victims to official UAPF branches. Once there, they might offer assistance with electronic queue registration, subsequently requesting SMS verification codes sent to the victim's phone. Tragically, some individuals have already divulged these sensitive codes to the scammers.
What UAPF Contributors Need to Know
UAPF officials emphasize that their employees will never request sensitive information over the phone, via email, or through messaging apps. This includes SMS codes, passwords, bank card details, or any other confidential data. All services provided by the UAPF are free of charge.
Furthermore, if a caller already knows your full name, IIN (Individual Identification Number), address, or place of employment, do not assume they are legitimate. Scammers can easily obtain such personal details from publicly available sources.
Protecting Yourself
If you suspect you have encountered or are a victim of fraudulent activity, the UAPF strongly advises reporting the incident to the police immediately.
