Kazakhstan to Honor Heroes with New Medal for Anti-Terrorism Bravery
Kazakhstan is set to introduce a new medal to recognize individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary courage in combating terrorism. This initiative, spearheaded by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, aims to immortalize the heroic deeds of citizens who sacrificed their lives for national security.
Honoring Anti-Terrorism Heroes
During a ceremony commemorating Defenders of the Fatherland Day, President Tokayev announced his intention to establish this award. The first to be honored under this new initiative will be Police Captain Gaziz Baitasov, a hero who tragically lost his life 15 years ago while thwarting a terrorist attack.
The Sacrifice of Gaziz Baitasov
Captain Baitasov's ultimate sacrifice occurred in 2011 in Taraz. He died while confronting a suicide bomber, preventing further casualties and demonstrating immense bravery. His actions serve as a powerful example of patriotism and selflessness.
Promoting Role Models for Youth
President Tokayev emphasized the importance of celebrating national heroes and their contributions to society. He stated, "We must promote true heroes and citizens who have served our country. This initiative will extend to departmental awards as well." The goal is to ensure that the bravery of individuals like Gaziz Baitasov is never forgotten and serves as an inspiration for future generations.
The Taraz Terrorist Attack
The incident in Taraz on November 12, 2011, resulted in seven fatalities. The attack was carried out by a religious extremist named Maksat Kariev, who had previously attacked an arms store and killed several law enforcement officers before Captain Baitasov intervened.
The President also extended congratulations to Kazakhstani officers, soldiers, and attendees on Defenders of the Fatherland Day and Victory Day, highlighting the ongoing commitment to national security and remembrance.
