Kazakhstan's New Constitution to Elevate Worker Rights and Protections

Kazakhstan is set to introduce significant constitutional amendments that will elevate the responsibility of both employers and the state towards ensuring safe and fair working conditions for all citizens. This move aims to strengthen labor rights and social protections.

Worker Rights at the Forefront

Aida Balayeva, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information, announced these changes during a meeting with employees at 'KazZinc' LLP in Oskemen. She emphasized that the new Constitution will explicitly outline the right to work, the right to safe working environments, and the right to fair wages. These provisions are designed to reduce workplace injuries and safeguard employee health.

"The Constitution will establish the responsibility of employers and the state for labor conditions at the highest level," Balayeva stated. "The main change is that the citizen – their rights, needs, and labor – will be placed at the forefront of the Constitution."

Digital Age Protections

The upcoming constitutional reforms also address the protection of human rights in the digital age. According to Member of Parliament Sergey Ponomarev, the new draft will enhance protections for online communications and intellectual property. The state will constitutionally guarantee the safeguarding of personal data.

Community Engagement on the Referendum

The importance of the upcoming referendum, scheduled for March 15, was highlighted by industry leaders. Timur Tokzhigitov, Director of the Oskemen Metallurgical Complex at 'KazZinc', affirmed that the company's employees would participate in the vote, recognizing its significance for the nation's strategic development. Aslan Turgambayev, a senior foreman at the copper plant, also expressed confidence that the updated Constitution would reinforce rights and social guarantees.
