Kazakhstan's Public Service Centers Targeted in Major Corruption Crackdown

The National Security Committee (KNB) of Kazakhstan has announced the uncovering of significant corruption schemes operating within public service centers (PSCs) across several regions. These operations involved illegal activities related to obtaining driver's licenses and other government services, resulting in the detention of numerous individuals.

Bribery for Driver's Licenses

In Astana, the former deputy head of a specialized PSC was exposed for accepting bribes. This official facilitated the process for citizens to obtain driver's licenses in exchange for illicit payments. According to the KNB, these fraudulent activities resulted in the illegal acquisition of over 100 million tenge.

Fake Exams and Unlawful Enrichment

The scope of these illegal activities extended beyond driver's licenses. In Kokshetau and Ekibastuz, heads of PSC branches were found to be accepting money to allow other individuals to take exams on behalf of clients. Furthermore, in branches of the "Government for Citizens" corporation in Astana, Shymkent, and Taraz, instances of abuse of official powers were identified during the re-registration of real estate and the removal of encumbrances.

Investigations into these cases are currently underway, with further details expected to be released soon.
