A devastating incident unfolded in the Boston subway system when a 40-year-old man became trapped in an escalator and tragically lost his life. The victim has been identified as Steven McCluskey, a father of two.

Escalator Tragedy at Davis Station

The incident occurred on February 27th at the Davis station. According to video footage released by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), over a dozen people walked past McCluskey as he struggled, with none offering assistance. He attempted to free himself from his clothing, which had become caught and was constricting his breathing, but was unsuccessful.

Delayed Response and Recovery Efforts

McCluskey succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Police reports indicate that a transit employee arrived approximately 20 minutes after the incident. Although the escalator was stopped, McCluskey's body was already caught within the mechanism. By the time the employee arrived, McCluskey had already passed away.

Official statements confirm that Steven McCluskey was found unresponsive, with his clothing severely jammed in the escalator steps. Rescuers had to partially dismantle the escalator to retrieve his body.

Family Seeks Answers and Accountability

McCluskey's sister shared that he had battled addiction for many years but always strived to be a caring provider for his loved ones. She highlighted his work as a carpenter and his pride in his two sons, Shane and Steven.

His mother expressed her distress over the perceived delay in response from transit personnel. The Middlesex District Attorney's office is continuing its investigation into the incident, classifying it as an accidental death. They reiterated the importance of using the emergency stop button in such situations.

The family of Steven McCluskey is seeking an official acknowledgment of responsibility from the Boston transit authority.
