Saudi Arabia Tightens Mecca Entry Ahead of 2026 Hajj Season
Saudi Arabian authorities have implemented significant new restrictions on entry into Mecca as the 2026 Hajj season approaches. These measures are designed to regulate access to the holy city and ensure the smooth organization of religious pilgrimages.
Temporary Suspension of Umrah Permits
From April 18th to May 31st, the issuance of permits for Umrah through the Nusuk platform has been halted. During this specific period, only individuals holding a Hajj visa or possessing a special permit will be allowed entry into Mecca.
Stricter Controls on Access
Furthermore, starting April 13th, a ban has been enforced on individuals entering Mecca without a Hajj visa, residency permit, or official authorization to work at the holy sites. The authorities emphasized that these actions are crucial for ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims and for maintaining the integrity of the Hajj organization.
Enforcement and Penalties
The government has warned that violators of these new regulations will face penalties, including fines and other forms of accountability. This intensified control signifies Saudi Arabia's commitment to managing the influx of visitors during the peak pilgrimage times, prioritizing those with legitimate reasons and necessary permissions.
