Wild Animal Population Surges in Altyn-Emel National Park
The wild animal population is experiencing a notable surge in Kazakhstan's Zhetisu region, particularly within the Altyn-Emel State National Natural Park. Recent counts reveal a thriving ecosystem where wildlife, especially wild horses and ibex, are flourishing.
Population Growth in Altyn-Emel
According to the latest census conducted by park officials, the number of kulans has surpassed 3,500 individuals, while the population of dzheyrans has exceeded 6,000. These figures represent a significant increase, highlighting the park's success in conservation efforts.
Advanced Monitoring Techniques
To accurately track wildlife, the national park conducts annual animal censuses. This comprehensive survey utilizes 14 specialized vehicle and horseback routes. Additionally, camera traps are strategically placed to monitor rare species like ibex and argali. The movement and habitats of snow leopards, a rare predator, are also closely observed using GPS navigators. Six years ago, the first camera trap captured this elusive feline; today, an estimated 20 snow leopards inhabit the park's territory.
Factors Contributing to Wildlife Increase
Kuat Baiturbayev, the director of Altyn-Emel State National Natural Park, explained that the primary goal of these animal counts is to determine annual growth and assess the carrying capacity of the park's food resources. Spanning over 307,500 hectares, with an additional 240,000 hectares in the Upper Koksuy reserve, the park provides favorable living conditions. This conducive environment is credited with the sustained growth observed across all animal populations.
This remarkable increase in wildlife is a testament to the effective conservation strategies and the protected environment offered by Altyn-Emel National Park.
