Botagoz Kaldyabayeva, the daughter-in-law of renowned composer Shamsi Kaldyabayev, has shed light on a significant truth regarding the final years of poet and public figure Mukhtar Shakhanov's life.

Kaldyabayeva revealed that Shakhanov had a long-standing connection with their family, often visiting Shamsi Kaldyabayev's apartment in Almaty during his youth.

A pivotal moment occurred in 1991 when Shamsi Kaldyabayev fell seriously ill after his 60th birthday celebration. Mukhtar Shakhanov, as a close friend, personally ensured Kaldyabayev was brought to his Almaty home and remained by his side during this difficult time.

Ensuring Copyright and Fair Compensation

Kaldyabayeva's recent interaction with Mukhtar Shakhanov in late 2024 led to an agreement concerning the copyright protection of songs co-written with Shamsi Kaldyabayev.

According to Kaldyabayeva, Shakhanov had not received any royalties from copyright societies for eight years. However, through the efforts of the "Shamsi Alem" foundation, fair compensation was eventually secured for songs featuring Shakhanov's lyrics.

"Mukhtar aga, even in the last two years of his life, was able to see that justice existed regarding his legacy. May he rest in peace and may the Almighty grant him tranquility. Mukhtar Shakhanov was a true citizen, a poet, and a tireless creative individual," Botagoz Kaldyabayeva wrote.
