Parakarate Athlete Claims Forced Salary Deductions by Astana Federation

A parakarate athlete is seeking justice, claiming he was subjected to pressure by the leadership of the Astana City Karate Federation and had money illegally taken from his salary. For over a year, the athlete states that 50,000 tenge was deducted from his monthly earnings.

Athlete's Account of Deductions

Zhetes Nurmaganbetov, a 38-year-old athlete with a first-group disability due to cerebral palsy, has been practicing parakarate since 2021. He reported that after securing employment in 2022, his salary increased to between 102,000 and 120,000 tenge. However, from that point on, he was required to transfer 50,000 tenge monthly to specific Kaspi Gold account numbers.

Initially, Nurmaganbetov understood these funds were for charitable purposes, intended to help single mothers and large families. His doubts about the legitimacy of these transfers arose after he took out a mortgage. When he attempted to stop the payments, he claims he faced significant pressure.

"It's not easy for someone paying a mortgage," Nurmaganbetov stated. "When I said I would stop the transfers, they told me to 'quit my job.'"

Official Complaint and Response

In January 2026, Zhetes Nurmaganbetov filed an official complaint through the e-Otinish platform. He alleges that ten days later, a federation representative visited his home, apologized, and attempted to return 1,150,000 tenge in cash. However, the athlete asserts he did not accept the money.

According to Nurmaganbetov, approximately 10 other individuals have faced similar situations. He has lodged complaints with the prosecutor's office, the police, and the Department of the National Security Committee. Despite these actions, his lawyer, Dastan Igubaev, reports that the case has repeatedly been stalled, with authorities citing a lack of criminal elements.

Federation's Denial

Meirimgul Dukeyeva, Vice-President of the WKF Astana City Karate Federation, has refuted all accusations, labeling them as slander. She stated that similar complaints have been filed previously but were never substantiated. "If they wish, they can take it to court again," Dukeyeva responded.

A formal inquiry has been sent to the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan regarding this matter.
