Second Trial Begins for Sultan Sarsemaliyev Amid Allegations of Murder and Fraud
A second trial has begun in Atyrau against Sultan Sarsemaliyev, this time involving serious criminal charges. He is accused of murdering four individuals – Nauryz Mukangaliyev, Maksot Karabalin, Nasip Oteshkalieva, and Miramgul Karabalin – and concealing their bodies. Furthermore, Sarsemaliyev allegedly used the victims' phones to fraudulently obtain loans.
Background of the Former Marriage
Relatives of Akbayan Mukangaliyeva, Sarsemaliyev's former wife, have shed light on their relationship's beginnings and the difficulties they faced. Akbayan, who studied law in Aktobe after finishing school, moved to Atyrau. It was there, while working at a fair, that she met her future husband.
An Unconventional Union
The couple married in 2016 with a small ceremony. However, according to close family members, a traditional large wedding did not take place because the groom's side opted for a bride-kidnapping tradition. The marriage resulted in the birth of five children.
Details of the Current Trial
The criminal case against Sarsemaliyev includes allegations of four murders and the subsequent concealment of the bodies. He is also accused of exploiting the deceased individuals' bank accounts and mobile phones to secure loans. Following the alleged crimes, Sarsemaliyev fled Kazakhstan and was apprehended in Indonesia.
