A recent discussion on Instagram has brought the actual salaries of doctors working in Kazakhstan's public hospitals into sharp focus. Therapist Anel Kurmanova shared her payslip, shedding light on the financial realities faced by medical professionals.

Kurmanova initially polled her followers on their estimations of doctors' earnings in Kazakhstan. While responses varied, some guesses reached as high as one million tenge.

Revealing the Actual Earnings

Anel Kurmanova, a specialist with 10 years of education and over 5 years of practical experience, presented her earnings statement for March. The amount shown was a modest 242,000 tenge.

"I studied for 10 years for this. How can one live on this money? How can I support my family, my children, and myself?" the doctor expressed her distress.

Salaries of Experienced Professionals

Some online comments suggested that her low salary might be due to her being a junior specialist. However, Kurmanova also inquired about the salaries of her colleagues with 5 to 30 years of experience. The results showed little improvement, with their average earnings ranging between 270,000 and 350,000 tenge.

Social Situation of Doctors

According to the doctor, even working a full day, her salary barely covers essential expenses. After paying for rent, food, transportation, and other mandatory bills, there is little left.

"When a medical professional receives a decent wage, they don't constantly worry about money. If at least their basic needs were met, they could focus on their work, love their profession, develop, and improve their qualifications. But, forgive me, what happens when there isn't enough money for food? What should they be thinking about?" the therapist questioned.

This issue is particularly resonant given the ongoing shortage of medical personnel in Kazakhstan. A recent article published by Kursiv highlighted that doctors face the most significant staffing shortages among all professions in the healthcare sector.
