Renowned lawyer Meirman Shekeyev has shed light on alleged threats faced by prominent public figure and poet Mukhtar Shakhanov, recounting incidents that suggest attempts on his life.

Shekeyev, who attended the 40-day memorial for Shakhanov, shared personal recollections of the poet's dedication to serving the interests of the Kazakh people and the dangers he reportedly encountered.

Shakhanov's Core Mission: National Interest

While many recognize Mukhtar Shakhanov as a poet, composer, and activist, Shekeyev emphasized that his primary objective was always to champion the cause of the Kazakh nation. This unwavering focus, the lawyer suggested, may have put him at odds with certain forces.

A Chilling Warning in Moscow

One particularly alarming incident, recalled from Shakhanov's wife, Khanshaiym, involved a trip to Moscow. Shakhanov was offered admission to a Kremlin hospital after falling ill. However, an anonymous phone call issued a stark warning: his chances of survival if admitted were slim. Following this threat, Shakhanov promptly returned to Kazakhstan, seemingly evading a significant danger.

The Knife Behind the Curtain

Shekeyev also recounted another unsettling event. While Shakhanov was hospitalized at Almaty's Hospital No. 7, he reportedly saw a person holding a knife behind a curtain late at night. The lawyer speculated that such incidents might have influenced Shakhanov's later appointment as ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.

Steadfast in Defending National Interests

Despite facing pressure, Shekeyev asserted that Mukhtar Shakhanov never wavered in his commitment to national interests. "Mukhtar agha's contribution was immense in establishing the Kazakh language as the state language. He openly expressed his views and showed courage in defending the nation's interests," the lawyer stated.
