Mother of Suspect in Atyrau Incident Reveals Reason for Daughter-in-Law's Haircut

A mother of one of the primary suspects in a disturbing incident in the Zhandeldi village of Atyrau region has come forward with new details regarding her daughter-in-law, Akbayan Mukangaliyeva. She claims that law enforcement agencies may be misinterpreting certain aspects of the situation.

According to the mother, shaving her daughter-in-law's head was not related to domestic violence, as has been suggested. When journalist Ruslan Otepbai asked why Akbayan's hair was cut, she stated that a health issue had arisen.

Health Concerns Prompted the Haircut

The mother explained that her daughter-in-law developed sores on her body, which became infested with lice. "We had no choice but to shave her head. I gave the permission myself. I told Sultan, 'Shave her head! She was scratching her head all night, turning the sores into wounds. All her clothes were covered in scabs from the sores. I was worried the children might catch it,'" she recounted.

She emphasized that the decision was made for hygienic reasons, not due to any form of abuse. "Sultan couldn't bring himself to do it. After all, she is his beloved wife. But it was summer, and there was a shower. Akbayan herself didn't object; in fact, she felt relieved. I washed and cleaned her head. She was having a reaction to a blood transfusion," the mother added.

The mother believes the police have misunderstood the situation, assuming she was beaten by her husband and had her hair cut as a result. "They ask, 'Why did you cut her hair?' They think she was beaten by her husband and had her hair cut. Their relationship was good; there were no conflicts," she stated.
