Private Helicopter with Law Enforcement Officers Vanishes in Amur Region

A private helicopter has gone missing in the Amur Region, prompting an extensive search operation. The aircraft, a Robinson model, lost contact with air traffic control on the evening of February 19th. Notably, law enforcement officers were on board the flight.

Search Efforts Underway

According to the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office, the helicopter departed from an area approximately 130 kilometers from the village of Amuranka, heading towards Romny. However, communication with the crew ceased during the flight. In response, the supervisory body has launched an investigation into flight safety. The Investigative Committee has also initiated a criminal case under the article concerning violations of air traffic rules and safety, resulting in the potential death of two or more individuals.

Occupants of the Helicopter

There were three individuals on board the helicopter: one pilot and two officers from law enforcement agencies. They were reportedly returning after participating in operational search activities in the taiga.

Challenging Conditions Hamper Search

The Amur Regional Ministry of Emergency Situations has deployed an operational team, a search and rescue squad, and an aeromobile unit from the city of Blagoveshchensk to the Romny district. Rescuers are working in four groups, utilizing snowmobiles for ground searches. A Mi-8 helicopter is also surveying the area from the air. Despite good visibility, the search is being significantly hindered by the lack of roads, deep snow, and difficult terrain, including the Stanovoy Range which crosses the district's border.
