A routine train journey between Astana and Petropavlovsk took a distressing turn for one passenger when a malfunctioning toilet led to a messy and unsanitary situation, with images circulating on social media depicting the unpleasant aftermath.

Toilet System Failure on Board

The incident occurred on a train traveling the Astana-Petropavlovsk route. Reports indicate that the onboard toilet system experienced a blockage, causing wastewater to spill throughout the compartment. Tragically, a passenger attempting to use the facility was also doused in the contaminated water, soaking their clothing.

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Responds

Responding to the situation, the press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) confirmed the incident. The company stated that the issue arose on train number 323/327 (Astana – Petropavlovsk) in a placart carriage (No. 8/28339) while en route between Tayynsha and Smirnovo stations. The cause was attributed to a blockage in the carriage's sanitary-technical system, stemming from a violation of bio-toilet usage rules.

Foreign Objects Found in Toilet System

During an inspection, railway officials discovered plastic bottles and food waste within the toilet system. KTZ emphasized that these systems are not designed to handle such foreign objects or food scraps. The company warned that such blockages significantly impact the comfort and safety of all passengers on board.

Disciplinary Actions Taken

Following an internal investigation into the incident, KTZ took disciplinary measures. The train chief was dismissed from their position for failing to adequately monitor the carriage's sanitary conditions. Additionally, the section chief received a strict reprimand.

This incident follows a previous complaint from a resident of Semey regarding the condition of a women's carriage on the Semey – Nurly Zhol route, highlighting ongoing concerns about passenger comfort and facility maintenance.
