Kazakhstan and Russia have reached a pivotal agreement to construct a nuclear power plant (NPP), a development that signals a new phase in energy cooperation between the two nations. The announcement was made by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during a press briefing.

A New Era for Energy Cooperation

President Tokayev emphasized the substantial importance of the agreements related to the construction of the 'Balkhash' NPP. He expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Russian Federation for their support in launching this ambitious project. The development of the NPP is expected to foster scientific, educational, and technological collaboration, paving the way for advancements in new sectors of energy and industry.

Strengthening Transit Potential

The meeting also addressed the crucial role of Kazakhstan and Russia in ensuring transport connectivity across Eurasia. Both countries are actively working on developing transcontinental corridors along the North-South and East-West routes. Systematic measures are being implemented to optimize tariffs, simplify administrative procedures, and modernize infrastructure. Last year, cargo turnover reached 92 million tons, marking a 3.5% increase.

Space Sector Collaboration

Furthermore, the two nations highlighted the promising prospects for cooperation in the space sector. The Baikonur Cosmodrome continues to serve as a prime example of scientific and technical partnership. Joint projects like 'Baiterek,' including the recently launched 'Sunkar / Soyuz-5' launch vehicle, are set to open new opportunities for strengthening the countries' positions in the international space services market.

A Unique Gift: Amur Tigers

A particularly noteworthy moment during the Russian President's visit to Kazakhstan was the arrival of four Amur tigers. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Vladimir Putin for his support in the measures to reintroduce tigers into Kazakhstan's territory, a gesture recognized for its significant importance by all Kazakhstanis.
