Kazakhstan Cameras Now Detect Phone Use and Seatbelt Violations
Kazakhstan is expanding the capabilities of its traffic monitoring cameras to include two of the most common and dangerous driving violations. Starting March 12th, automated systems will begin detecting drivers using mobile phones and failing to wear seatbelts.
Enhanced Enforcement
Previously, these offenses were primarily identified by police officers on patrol. However, amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses in Kazakhstan now empower traffic cameras to automatically record these infractions. This technological upgrade aims to significantly improve road safety by addressing behaviors that frequently contribute to accidents.
New Detection Capabilities
Beyond monitoring speed limits and red-light running, the upgraded camera systems will now identify drivers holding or using their phones while driving. This is a critical development, as distracted driving is a major cause of road collisions. Additionally, the cameras will enforce seatbelt usage, a fundamental safety measure that drastically reduces the severity of injuries in the event of a crash.
Broader Scope of Violations
The new system's expanded functions are expected to increase driver accountability and contribute to a more orderly traffic environment throughout the country. These changes are part of a broader effort to enhance road safety regulations and enforcement mechanisms.
