Kazakhstan Consumers Win Payouts for Substandard Internet Services

Residents in Kazakhstan's Zhetysu region have successfully taken their internet service provider to court, securing refunds for consistently poor service. This legal action resulted in a total of 315,000 tenge being returned to ten consumers.

The announcement was made by Bolat Tanabergеnov, Chairman of the Committee for the Protection of Consumer Rights under the Ministry of Trade and Integration, during a briefing at the Central Communications Service.

Legal Action Secures Consumer Refunds

Tanabergеnov detailed that the Zhetysu regional department for trade and consumer rights protection filed a lawsuit with the Taldykorgan City Court. The aim was to recover funds for ten consumers who had experienced substandard internet and communication services.

"By court order, 315,000 tenge were mandated to be returned to ten consumers," Tanabergеnov stated.

Consumer Frustration Leads to Legal Resolution

He further clarified that the consumers had initially approached their internet provider, reporting a lack of quality connection for over 40 days. Following this, the residents escalated their complaints to the territorial consumer protection department.

"The company acknowledged that it had not provided communication services during this period and returned the money," added Bolat Tanabergеnov.

This case follows previous reports of dissatisfaction with internet quality, including a complaint from Member of Parliament Marat Bashimov, who had raised concerns about poor home internet service with the Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry, Zhaslan Madiev.
